Jesper Juul's definition of a game:
“A game is a rule-based system with a variable and quantifiable outcome, where different outcomes are assigned different values, the player exerts effort in order to influence the outcome, the player feels emotionally attached to the outcome, and the consequences of the activity are negotiable.”
Canabalt
When i was playing Canabalt i felt frustrated and annoyed because you had to time certain parts perfectly and it was difficult to play because of how you have the screen shake and it messes with your eyes depending.
The thing that made me keep playing was the fact that i wanted to beat the high score on it.
One of the games that was inspired by canabalt and developed further was temple run, because you have to jump in that onto the different platforms while different things happened which you had to avoid and another thing that is different from it is it's in 3D.
Another game that was inspired by canabalt and developed further was one called dino run, where you play as a dinosaur and run away so you don't go extinct and you have options to go down and avoid obstacles or continue going forward and avoid them, you can get picked up by birds which carry you further.
Another game is robot unicorn attack and you have a double jump and you can hold Z to jump a little bit longer and you have to make more decisions fast or you can get hit by a star, you also have three tries and it adds your score together to make your overall high score and you can dash through stars using X.
Analysis of the meaning of Star Wars the last Jedi trailer and the Call of Duty trailer
Analysis of Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
This is a screenshot of Hellblade, the part i played in lesson. This is the first fight scene.
The meaning behind this scene is to show that the place Senua has gone to is dangerous, we were told this at the start when we could hear the whispering that it was dangerous, so they have put a threat into the game. In this scene you are attacked by monsters one after the other, then if you die, the character you play as, Senua, has her arm begin to rot, if you die multiple times then it will make other parts of your body rot, when it gets to your neck its game over. The meaning behind the rotting is that Senua has the mental disorder called psychosis and psychosis makes you see things that aren't there, like the rotting. The dark tones in this scene set an sinister mood, since when you play this part you suddenly have to fight, which makes it feel intense, since they don't tell you how to fight, you have to check the controls beforehand. In this scene there is also no exit unless you die or kill or the enemies, which makes you feel trapped and you a force to fight. The meaning behind this is to make the player progress and know how to fight, like Senua because Senua and the player go on the adventure together in a way and you learn about the disorder she has and its like you are following her, seeing her experiences because it is in a third person view, like you are keeping watch, since in this scene, when you get attacked you have to be on the look out of the monsters, because they spam in a different direction from where the last one was. The sounds you hear are the noises from the actual fighting, like the clashing of weapons and the nosies from being hit, this lets the player experience what Senua is experience, like you are actually there because you can hear it. This is entertaining because you get to experience something that hasn't been heard of a lot and only some experience and the fighting makes it more entertaining because you have to plan on how you kill the monster, since you can't keep attacking them or you will get killed. The purpose of Hellblade is to make people aware of psychosis, so they have done that by showing horrifying things, that people have to live with in their everyday life. The actual style also makes this game entertaining because it looks interesting and different from other games, because of it's unique monsters, being part human and animal.
